The Influence of Migration and the Question of Slavery on the Formation of the State of Illinois We’ll set the context with Mark Motsinger’s research on the Old Soldiers Reservation (Southern Illinois land grants to soldiers from the Revolutionary War) which provides insights on how this immigration helped shape the culture of Southern Illinois. We’ll then review the text from the “Declaration of Sentiment and Plan of Action” written by the Colored Convention that took place in Alton, IL in 1856. Come dig deeper into the history of our Region!
