The Big Year movie night & Fall Migration Mini-Sit kick-off

Grab some FREE popcorn and join us for a special screening of the birding comedy-adventure The Big Year! Whether you’re an experienced birder or simply enjoy spending time in nature, this fun-filled evening is a great way to celebrate the excitement of fall migration.
But that’s not all this event also serves as an informational kickoff for the 2026 Fall Migration Mini-Sit, taking place on Saturday, September 19, 2026, throughout the Cache River Watershed.
? What is the Fall Migration Mini-Sit?
The Fall Migration Mini-Sit is a friendly birding event where teams spend three hours at designated birding hotspots throughout the watershed, identifying and tallying as many bird species as possible by sight and sound. Participants of all skill levels are welcome, from first-time birdwatchers to seasoned birders. Teams work from a fixed observation area and contribute valuable citizen science data while enjoying one of the most exciting times of year for bird migration.
During intermission and before the movie, attendees can:
Learn how the Mini-Sit works
Ask questions about bird identification and participation
Find a team or recruit teammates
Sign up to participate in the September event
Win prizes provided by Southern Illinois Audubon Society
No birding experience is necessary just curiosity and a love of nature!
