DESCRIPTION:Join Little Grassy Fish Hatchery and Giant City State Park Naturalists for Canoe Fishing at Lake Murphysboro State Park\, a unique summer fishing experience that combines paddling\, angling\, and outdoor exploration. This family-friendly event invites participants to fish from canoes while enjoying the quiet coves and scenic shoreline of Lake Murphysboro. \nAnglers of all skill levels are welcome. Participants will have the opportunity to fish for species such as bass\, catfish\, crappie\, and sunfish while learning basic canoe-fishing techniques\, water safety tips\, and fish identification. Canoes\, personal flotation devices (PFDs)\, fishing gear\, bait\, and tackle will be provided for registered participants. \nWhat to Expect \n· Canoe fishing on Lake Murphysboro (boats\, PFDs\, fishing gear\, bait\, and tackle provided) \n· Informal fishing tips and water safety guidance before launch \n· Opportunities for wildlife viewing and nature appreciation \nWhat to Bring \n· Illinois fishing license (required for ages 16 and older) \n· Water\, snacks\, sun protection\, and weather-appropriate clothing \nRegistration Required \nTo register\, call Little Grassy Fish Hatchery at 618-529-4100 Participation is limited to 16 people. SUMMARY:Shawnee Hills Trail Races
DESCRIPTION:There will be miles and miles of great running through the beautiful Shawnee National Forest\, and the totally rustic Camp O cabins. There is a 100 mile\, 100k\, 50k and Half Marathon option…plenty of fun for everyone!\n​Camp Ondessonk\, in the heart of the Shawnee National Forest\, will play host to the Shawnee Hills Trail Races. The runners will get to explore some of the most stunning and extraordinary rock formations and waterfalls that Shawnee National Forest is well known for\, vegetation consists largely of oak-hickory\, maple-beech\, and pine forests. The course will take you deep into the sandstone canyon systems of Southern Illinois’ Shawnee Hills Natural Division while traversing Jackson Hollow and the Bay Creek Reservoir and several waterfalls along the course including Pakentuck Falls (the tallest free-falling waterfall in Illinois)\, Jackson Falls\, Horseshoe Falls\, and Cedar Falls along with some inspiring views from Salomon’s Ridge.
