Southern Illinois Honey Festival

Southern Illinois Honey Festival is held in the Valley of the Arts, Downtown Makanda, IL. Makanda borders the beautiful Shawnee National Forest, the gateway to Illinois’ finest state park, Giant City, and is located 8 miles south of Carbondale.  The festival celebrates Artists and their creations as well as great music and food.

  1. Southern Illinois Honey Festival is a non-profit organization intending to educate the public regarding the availability and use of local honey.
  2. Entries from hives located in Illinois south of Interstate 70 are eligible to enter the contest. One entry per apiary unless different type(s) of flowers where the bees worked is noted on each entry.  A separate form and fee is required for each entry.
  3. All honey entered in the contest is judged on taste alone. Entries will be wrapped in foil or coverings to allow a blind taste test by the judges.
  4. Winners will be announced at approximately 4 pm the day of the festival. Winner need not be present.  Prize money will be awarded to the top three finishers.
