A “Shrimp Festival” may sound like a crazy celebration in a quaint river town in Southern Illinois but it is one you DO NOT want to miss! No, you won’t find shrimp in the Ohio River. What we do have are local and sustainably farmed shrimp (prawn) from Tanglefoot Ranch.
This festival was created in 2001 in order to help promote Southern Illinois Prawn Growers. These Southern Illinois grown prawn will be served up in a variety of ways or you may purchase them by the pound to be enjoyed later.
Along with the fantastic foods, we also have a local winery join the festival. Every major food vendor will serve at least one shrimp dish. Signage will specify if locally raised shrimp are being used. If you don’t like shrimp, don’t worry, there will be BBQ, corn dogs, and other foods as well as the top notch delicious shrimp dishes being served.
As always there will be plenty to do from a buggy ride or maybe a ride in the sky aboard a helicopter.
You can always just sit back and relax with family and friends. Enjoy one of the live bands that will be performing through out the day.
Check out the Farmer’s Market starting at 8am. Stroll through the courtyard for a wide variety of arts and crafts vendors. Don’t forget the local shops in town too. A corn hole tournament will start at 2pm.
For the kids:
We have had inflatables, dunking booths, face painting, and petting zoos.
Please enjoy the day in Golconda and don’t overlook its many attributes such as our 19th Century buildings or the walk bridge taking you from the rivers edge to the beautiful Golconda Marina.
